 We are looking for Senior Estimator to join our Boston team. This person will work together with the Operations Manager to ensure quality and execution of estimates and growth and development of new talent, internal and external relationships and profitability for Self-Perform P&L at Starlite. Tasks and work need to completed accurately and on a timely basis to ensure the project is set up for success.  This will be accomplished by managing the workload and (if applicable) assistant estimators to meet established milestones.

Responsibilities

Setting the Project Goals: Ensure that proper documentation is in place prior to the beginning of the Estimating process.

  • Ensures that the information required to begin the Estimating process is accurate and available; Follow-up to fill in the blanks where needed.
  • Sets up projects to insure profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Establishes the pre-construction budget and manages the associated funds.
  • Develops and manages self and others to milestones to ensure that your knowledge of the project and its requirements is thorough.

Knowing The Job: Seeks to gain and use information regarding the job to produce a quality estimate.

  • Inspects site to be fully versed on how the site will affect pricing. This includes working with Operations to include a site logistics plan.
  • Identify and ensure timeframes/execution is consistent with project schedule and approach.

Estimate Preparation: Prepares Estimates using Starlite’s policies, procedures and tools.

  • Clearly identifies areas of risk and profitability to focus project team decision making.
  • Ensures discussion of all pertinent issues with all Starlite project team members through the Scope Review meeting.
  • Structures a fair and comprehensive bid.

Relationship Management: Develop critical relationships. 

  • Promote positive relations by dealing professionally, respectfully and fairly.
  • Establish a strong line of communication with client and project team. This includes maintaining timely communication.
  • Work closely with all team members (internal and external) to keep effective communication of all project information, issues and opinions.

People Development – Drives the growth and development of staff always looking to improve and enhance team

  • Serves as a coach and mentor.
  • Sets expectations and goals and provides ongoing support and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction related field or equivalent experience
  • 7-8+ years of experience in construction management (estimating and project management) with a commercial general contracting company
  • Strong estimating skills; Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of estimating processes and delivery methods
  • Detailed knowledge of all trades: scope, time frames/field execution, typical missed scope/exposures
  • Experience managing a variety of projects in a rapidly growing organization is critical
  • Extensive experience maintaining project budgets and schedules
  • Knowledge of contract types and deal structures
  • Management experience: coaching, feedback delivery, delegating and mentorship preferred
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
