Responsibilities

The National Director of Quality Control will develop, implement and enhance the Quality Control program of the construction life-cycle. They will partner with operations leaders, regional quality control staff, and project teams to ensure Shawmut’s quality assurance and control processes deliver client satisfaction and profitability.  This role will be part of Shawmut’s Center of Excellence and set the standards for Quality Control, develop and deliver training, and provide support for priority corporate pursuits.   

 

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing complex construction quality assurance and control programs.  This candidate will be highly skilled in collaboration and effectively influencing project teams and seasoned leaders.    

 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive quality control plans, procedures and audit checklists for all construction projects.   
  • Partner with project teams to ensure timely delivery of complex procured materials and proper installation to guarantee accuracy and meet construction requirements.   
  • Lead and manage quality control audits and inspections to ensure adherence to project specifications and standards. 
  • Drive consistency of quality control practices allowing for regional and client variations. 
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. 
  • Provide support, guidance and mentorship to regional quality control managers through cross-regional meetings by sharing lessons learned, best practices and building consistency. 
  • Partner with Regional Quality Control Managers, Estimating, Purchasing, Superintendents, Project Management and key stakeholders to integrate quality control measures throughout the construction process.   
  • Serve as a resource in escalation process for understanding of contract specifications and management of Trade-Partners. 
  • Identify and implement corrective actions for quality control deficiencies and track their resolution. 
  • Prepare and maintain quality control documentation, including submittal adherence and conformance with project details. 
  • Analyze quality control performance data and recommend improvement to quality control systems.   
  • Establish testing requirements and procedures in accordance with contract specifications. 
  • Manage the inspection process and provide field reports to the project team. 
  • Report on quality control performance and recommend improvements to quality control systems. 
  • Participate in preconstruction reviews to provide input on constructability and quality control systems. 
  • Utilizes advanced software and tools to enhance program accuracy and efficiency. 
  • Lead efforts to integrate new technologies and best practices into the quality assurance and control process. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the quality assurance and control function; drives continuous learning efforts such as onboarding, training, etc. 
  • Represent the company as a thought leader in the industry.   
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. 

 

Project Pursuits and Execution: 

 

  • Provide quality assurance and control documentation as needed for select strategic pursuits. 
  • Create project specific quality control plans with project teams.   
  • Customize appropriate checklists to meet project needs. 
  • Attend critical client project meetings as needed.   

 

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 15+ years of construction experience.  
  • Education: Construction related bachelor’s degree preferred.  
  • Additional Role Specific Skills: LEAN construction experience preferred, strong presentation and proposal skills, vast knowledge of all trades and phases of the construction process.  
  • Other critical skills and competencies:
  • Thorough knowledge of senior leadership and region legal trends/risk. 
  • Outstanding relationship-building, influence and collaboration skills. 
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in English to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to create a culture of inclusion and belonging by acting with courage, humility and curiosity; desire to learn about others and self-reflect. 
  • Ability to build team relationships, stay organized, handle various projects at one time, follow up and make accurate decisions.
