Responsibilities

Shawmut is growing its Mission Critical business unit and seeking an experienced Project Manager – Mission Critical to lead large‑scale, technically complex data center projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role requires regular travel and can be based anywhere within the United States, due to the national footprint of our mission‑critical portfolio. The Project Manager oversees all aspects of project delivery, including budget, scheduling, quality, safety, documentation, and stakeholder coordination, while driving predictable outcomes on fast‑paced hyperscale and colocation environments.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Manage mission‑critical construction projects valued between $25M and $100M from preconstruction through completion.
  • Maintain responsibility for overall project performance, including schedule, budget, safety, and quality.
  • Lead key project meetings, including OAC, progress meetings, and monthly project reviews.

Financial Management

  • Participate in project budgeting and develop monthly cost and margin forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, identify variances, and proactively address financial risks.
  • Manage owner and subcontractor pay applications and administer change management processes.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Communicate clearly and consistently with owners, subcontractors, design teams, vendors, and field leadership.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and material samples to ensure compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across diverse teams and organizational levels.

Team Leadership

  • Provide clear direction, decisive problem‑solving, and consistent communication across large project teams.
  • Mentor and manage Assistant Project Managers to support their development.
  • Partner closely with the Superintendent to align field and project management priorities.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager in construction.
  • At least 3+ years managing hyperscale and/or colocation data center projects.
  • Proven track record delivering complex projects between $25M and $100M.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Strong understanding of construction phases, MEP systems, project sequencing, and mission‑critical requirements.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and make effective decisions in fast‑paced environments.

Travel Requirement

  • Must be willing and able to travel regularly to project sites across the United States.
  • Ability to temporarily relocate to project sites when project needs require.
  • Comfortable working in a national delivery model with multi‑region project teams.

Salary Range Information

Boston Base Salary Range: $125,000 - $201,000 The range stated is specific to Boston.  Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.

 

Candidates in other geographic markets will also be considered; compensation ranges for those locations may vary based on local market conditions and cost of labor.
