Responsibilities

Shawmut is growing its Mission Critical business unit and seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – Mission Critical to lead large‑scale, technically complex data center projects from preconstruction through closeout. The Senior Project Manageris responsible for the overall leadership, delivery, and financial performance of assigned projects. This role serves as the single point of accountability to both Shawmut and the client, leading teams from preconstruction through project closeout while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, cost, and client satisfaction objectives are met. This role requires regular travel and can be based anywhere within the United States, due to the national footprint of our mission‑critical portfolio.

  • Act as the primary point of responsibility and accountability for assigned projects, representing Shawmut to clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Lead all project management functions from preconstruction through closeout, providing direct oversight, leadership, and mentorship to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
  • Manage all contractual aspects of projects, including procurement strategy, contract negotiation and execution, change management, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop project forecasts, prepare budget projections, and ensure cost control within approved financial parameters.
  • Prepare, review, and approve project and business documentation—including contracts, proposals, change orders, correspondence, and execution strategies—to support sound business practices and appropriate legal protection.
  • Oversee project billing and cash flow while maintaining a clear, accurate understanding of job costs and overall financial performance.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of cost-reimbursable and GMP contract delivery, including cost-of-work definitions, billable rates, GMP controls, and change management processes.
  • Lead client meetings and guide contract development through GMP execution, building and maintaining strong, professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Provide leadership and coordination across internal departments, including Engineering, Purchasing, Accounting, Construction, and Service, to ensure timely and effective project execution.
  • Consult regularly with senior leadership to align project strategy, performance, and resource planning with company objectives.
  • Actively participate in project management meetings, contributing to planning, performance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate and deploy staffing resources across departments as needed, managing and supervising all assigned personnel to achieve project goals and contractual requirements.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members while actively supporting recruiting, training, and succession planning initiatives to drive long-term team and organizational growth.

 

 

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in construction or management
  • At least 5+ years managing hyperscale and/or colocation data center projects.
  • Proven track record delivering complex projects between $25M and $100M.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Strong understanding of construction phases, MEP systems, project sequencing, and mission‑critical requirements.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and make effective decisions in fast‑paced environments.

Travel Requirement

  • Must be willing and able to travel regularly to project sites across the United States.
  • Comfortable working in a national delivery model with multi‑region project teams.

Salary Range Information

Boston Base Salary Range: $160,000 - $250,000 The range stated is specific to Boston.  Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.

 

Candidates in other geographic markets will also be considered; compensation ranges for those locations may vary based on local market conditions and cost of labor.
