Responsibilities

The Junior Staff Accountant acts as a key resource to assist with both licensing & tax as well as accounting and financial reporting and analysis for Shawmut. This role’s primary functions include the accounts receivable process, reconciliation of balance sheet asset accounts, and assisting with the month-end close and financial reporting to senior management. 

 

  • Drives cash management, reconciles daily and monthly cash, provides analysis on trends of cash inflows and outflows for forecasting cash balances.
  • Reconcile contract notes, receivables, and unapplied cash for accuracy.
  • Assist with the month-end close according to the Close Checklist by compiling all necessary supporting documentation for select balance sheet asset accounts and key income statement accounts in the month-end close binder.
  • Record recurring monthly and as needed journal entries to the General Ledger accurately.
  • Reviews department internal budget details and acts accordingly for prepaid monthly expenses and liabilities. Reclassifies G&A costs as necessary to various cost codes to ensure all coding is accurate.
  • Assists with the External Audit process by preparing Confirmations and Account Reconciliations.
  • Assists Licensing and Tax Department with sales and use tax compliance at monthly, quarterly and annual intervals; reviews of job cost reporting for compliance.
  • Facilitate license renewals for corporate state and local business needs.
  • Aid individual license holders in obtaining and maintaining construction licenses.
  • Provides backup/support to other Staff Accountants to cover the needs of the department.
  • Performs Special Projects as needed for Controller, Assistant Controller, and Accounting Manager.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 0-2 years of general ledger experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business/Finance with a concentration in Accounting.
  • Additional Role Specific Skills: 
    • Fundamental understanding of basic accounting principles and a desire to learn construction accounting construction principles, practices, procedures, means and methods.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Demonstrated initiative, follow through, resourcefulness, efficiency and attention to detail.
    • Strong working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • High level of comfort with a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range Information

Boston Base Salary Range: $65,000-78,000.  The range stated is specific to Boston.  Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.
